Perawat sebagai tenaga kesehatan yang profesional mempunyai kesempatan paling besar untuk memberikan pelayanan/asuhan keperawatan yang komprehensif dengan membantu klien memenuhi kebutuhan dasar yang holistik. Asuhan keperawatan yang diberikan oleh perawat tidak bisa terlepas dari aspek spiritual yang merupakan bagian integral dari interaksi perawat dengan klien. Perawat berusaha untuk membantu memenuhi kebutuhan spiritual klien sebagai bagian dari kebutuhan yang menyeluruh, klien antara lain dengan memfasilitasi pemenuhan kebutuhan spiritual klien tersebut, walaupun perawat dan klien tidak mempunyai keyakinan spiritual atau keagamaan yang sama.

Kebutuhan spiritual adalah kebutuhan untuk mempertahankan atau mengembalikan keyakinan dan memenuhi kewajiban agama, serta kebutuhan untuk mendapatkan maaf atau pengampunan, mencintai, menjalin hubungan penuh rasa percaya dengan Tuhan. Kebutuhan spiritual sebagai bagian dari kebutuhan manusia secara utuh hanya dapat dipenuhi apabila perawat dibekali dengan kemampuan memberikan asuhan keperawatan dengan memperhatikan aspek spiritual klien sebagai bagian dari kebutuhan holistik pasien sebagai mahluk yang utuh dan unik. Pemenuhan kebutuhan spiritual diperlukan oleh pasien dan keluarga dalam mencari arti dari peristiwa kehidupan yang dihadapi termasuk penderitaan karena sakit dan merasa tetap dicintai oleh sesama manusia dan Tuhan.

Namun sampai saat ini, peran perawat terhadap kebutuhan spiritual kurang terpenuhi. Untuk itu perawat dan calon perawat harus menerapkan kebutuhan spiritual bagi pasien anak, dewasa dan lanjut usia di area akademik, klinik dan komunitas. Berdasarkan hal tersebut, kami bermaksud untuk mengadakan Call for Paper dengan tema “Nurses Role in Providing Spiritual Care in Hospital, Academic and Community”.
